Hoffmanns buy popular eatery The Bevy in Naples

The Hoffmanns have done it again.

The family — the largest owners of commercial real estate in Naples — has snatched up another local business. This time it's a popular downtown eatery.

On Monday the Hoffmanns announced their purchase of The Bevy at 360 12th Ave. S., off Third Street South. The purchase price was not disclosed. 

The purchase comes on the heels of three recent business acquisitions. The family also bought Sunmaster of Naples, Adelheidi's Organic Sweets and Naples Princess Cruises. 

"We like Florida. Can you tell? Naples," said David Hoffmann, founder and chairman of Hoffmann Commercial Real Estate.

Described as a vibrant neighborhood bistro to "sip + socialize," The Bevy offers five-star food choices, trademark cocktails, and curated wine and craft beer selections. It serves dinner only.

Former owner Adam Smith, a Naples redeveloper, envisioned The Bevy as an affordable neighborhood hangout to replace Handsome Harry’s Third Street Bistro, which was around the corner and closed a few years ago. He couldn't immediately be reached for comment about the sale. 

"Bevy” is slang for an alcoholic beverage and also can mean a large group or gathering, so Smith saw it as the perfect name for the venue, which opened in August.

After his family purchased the building that's home to The Bevy, Hoffmann said he developed a friendship with Smith, who expressed an interest in selling the restaurant.

"We thought we want to get into the restaurant business. So we decided to buy it," Hoffmann said. 

No changes are planned to the menu, the staff or the operating hours. However, the Hoffmanns do plan to ask the city to allow live music on the deck, Hoffmann said.

"It's doing quite well. We like the atmosphere a lot, the food, the people that run it, the people that work there. It's just a pretty exciting little restaurant," he said.

The family, he said, is exploring the idea of building a restaurant on Third Street South, and it's looking to buy "a couple of other" downtown eateries. 

The Hoffmanns continue hunting for other opportunities to add to their real estate and business holdings in Naples. Another big announcement is expected in a few weeks, with negotiations under way to purchase another well-known local business.

In a little over two years, the real estate company has amassed more than 20 properties in the Naples area, valued at more than $300 million. Most of the buildings are clustered around Fifth Avenue South or Third Street South.

More building purchases are in the works downtown.

Since 2015 the Hoffmanns have helped attract several high-end restaurants to their buildings, including The French and Sails.  

The company has kept most of the tenants that came along with its buildings, and there are few vacancies.
